Mechanical Design Engineer
Macrodyne Technologies Inc. is a leading designer and manufacturer of large hydraulic presses, fully automated hydraulic press lines and related die handling equipment serving manufacturing companies in the automotive, aerospace, consumer, and industrial product sectors. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies of hydraulic presses and automation equipment when part of automated pressing lines.
Part of Mechanical engineering department, the incumbent will interact permanently with assembly, manufacturing and purchasing. They will support the hydraulic design team, to the extent of integrating the hydraulic power units in the press structure.
- Design basic structural components, assemblies and subassemblies of the presses, fabrication and machining configurations
- Experienced with downloading 3D files available from suppliers, and convert them in usable SolidWorks files
- Basic engineering calculations including FEA to evaluate components displacements, strains and stresses under internal press loads
- Sizing of various components using strength of materials basic methods
- Integration of automation components in the press design, or pressing line
- Experience or familiar with robot pick and place applications
- During the design and production phases, ensures that the final product meets the customer’s specifications, as well as applicable regulatory codes
- Generate detail and assembly drawings, associated BOMs and any technical documentation related to the product
- Ensure that all applicable standards within the range of ISO 9000 are implemented on mechanical engineering documentation
- Provide all information to support procurement of all mechanical related components, included in BOMs
- Generate floor plans and customer approval drawings, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of interface with OE equipment and customer’s plant integration when requested
- Work on schedule and within the budget on all mechanical aspects of the project, and manages own time for maximum efficiency
- Prepare mechanical section of the operator manuals, with accuracy and coordinate final editing within the electrical and hydraulic groups
- Support Marketing and Product Management with concept drawings and creation/release of customer-viewable collateral documents
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-5 years minimum experience in mechanical design using SOLIDWORKS (preferable) or related software
- Good understanding of welding symbols, proficient in using GDT
- Proficient in 3D modeling, good understanding of FEA analysis principles
- Good knowledge in using various types of materials, metallic and nonmetallic, including low friction composite materials
- Exposure to the hydraulic circuits and understanding of basics in hydraulic press process
- Experienced in using Microsoft Office group of programs, especially Word and Excel
- High attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong and self-motivated team player, willing to learn new equipment and processes
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Good reaction to any technical, job related challenges
- Comfortable with traveling inside and outside Canada, mostly USA
- Salary: $50,000 to $110,000 commensurate on skills and experience
